Boutique Specialist

Commitment: Weekly or biweekly | Shifts are 2.5 hours | in person

Assist with customer service, merchandising, and organizing at our retail boutique in Athens. Shifts are set days of operation are Tuesday- Saturday.

Financial Empowerment Volunteer

Commitment: 1 class per month | 50 minutes | In person

Help women build practical financial skills as they rebuild their lives in recovery and following incarceration. We are seeking a volunteer with experience in banking, budgeting, financial education, credit, or money management to facilitate one practical, judgment-free class each month.

Possible topics include:
● Creating and managing a realistic budget
● Banking basics
● Understanding and rebuilding credit
● Reading paystubs
● Managing debt
● Avoiding predatory lending
● Building emergency savings
● Preparing financially for housing
● Understanding basic taxes
● Making financial decisions with limited income

We are looking for someone who can make money make sense—without shame, jargon, or assumptions about where someone should be financially.

Garden & Growing Volunteer

Commitment: 5–7 hours per month | Seasonal | In person

Help steward the garden and outdoor growing spaces at Divas Who Win Freedom Center. We are seeking a gardener, horticulturist, Master Gardener, or experienced home grower to help care for our seasonal raised garden beds and front flower beds.

Responsibilities may include:
● Developing seasonal planting plans
● Preparing soil and garden beds
● Planting and maintaining vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other plants
● Pruning and troubleshooting plant health
● Supporting harvesting
● Recommending plants appropriate for our space and seasons
● Occasionally involving participants in hands-on gardening and growing activities

We are looking for someone who sees the garden as more than landscaping—a space where women can participate, learn, grow food, and experience the satisfaction of tending something from planting through harvest.

Art & Creative Arts Volunteer

Commitment: Flexible | 50-minute classes | In person

We are seeking artists, makers, musicians, and creative community members to facilitate or co-facilitate hands-on creative experiences with women at Divas Who Win.

Current areas of particular interest include:
● Crochet
● Drumming
● Painting
● Collage
● Fiber arts
● Jewelry making
● Clay and ceramics
● Printmaking
● Photography
● Movement
● Handcrafts
● Other accessible creative practices

Volunteers do not need to be professional teaching artists but should have demonstrated experience with the skill they want to share and be comfortable facilitating an inclusive, beginner-friendly experience. Classes are approximately 50 minutes, and scheduling is flexible based on program needs and volunteer availability. Supplies and material needs will be coordinated with Divas staff in advance.

Resume Building Skill Partner

Commitment: 50-minute class | One-time or recurring | In person

Help women translate their experience, skills, and accomplishments into a resume that opens doors. We are seeking HR professionals, recruiters, workforce specialists, and experienced hiring managers to teach practical resume-building skills.

Topics may include:
● Identifying transferable skills
● Addressing employment gaps
● Writing strong work-experience descriptions
● Tailoring resumes for specific positions
● Completing online applications
● Creating professional references

Mock Interview Skill Partner

Commitment: 50-minute class | One-time or recurring | In person

Help women prepare to walk into an interview with confidence. We are seeking HR professionals, recruiters, managers, business owners, and other professionals who regularly participate in hiring.

Activities may include:
● Conducting practice interviews
● Preparing for common interview questions
● Providing constructive feedback
● Professional communication and presentation
● Discussing employment gaps
● Navigating questions related to justice involvement
● Developing questions to ask potential employers

GED Learning Partner

Commitment: Recurring | Schedule coordinated with Divas | In person

We are seeking educators, retired teachers, tutors, education students, and other qualified volunteers to support women working toward their GED. Areas of support may include:
● Math
● Reading
● Writing and language arts
● Science
● Social studies
● Study skills
● Test preparation
● Academic organization

Because GED preparation requires continuity, this opportunity is best suited for volunteers who can make a recurring commitment.

Entrepreneurship Skill Partner

Commitment: 50-minute class | One-time or short series | In person

Help women understand how to move from having an idea to building a viable small business. We are seeking entrepreneurs, retired executives, SCORE volunteers, business professionals, accountants, marketers, and others with practical business expertise.

Topics may include:
● Testing a business idea
● Developing a simple business plan
● Understanding startup costs
● Pricing products and services
● Separating personal and business finances
● Business licensing and registration
● Marketing and finding customers
● Understanding profit and expenses
● Accessing legitimate business resources and capital
● Building a business on a limited budget

Parenting Skill Partner

Commitment: 50-minute class | One-time or recurring series | In person

Recovery and rebuilding often happen alongside the work of parenting. We are seeking parenting educators, child-development professionals, family-support professionals, and qualified community educators to facilitate practical, respectful parenting education.

Topics may include:
● Reconnecting with children following separation
● Rebuilding trust
● Age-appropriate communication
● Establishing routines and boundaries
● Co-parenting
● Understanding child and adolescent development
● Managing parental stress
● Strengthening parent-child relationships

This is an educational volunteer role and does not include counseling or family therapy.

Personal Style & Image Skill Partner

Commitment: 50-minute class | One-time or seasonal | In person

Our Freedom Boutique provides access to clothing. This volunteer opportunity helps women discover how to make those clothes feel like their own. We are seeking image consultants, stylists, fashion professionals, cosmetology professionals, and others with expertise in personal style and presentation.

Topics may include:
● Color theory
● Discovering a personal color palette
● Dressing for different body shapes
● Building a capsule wardrobe
● Professional and interview attire
● Accessorizing
● Mixing and coordinating clothing
● Developing personal style
● Building a wardrobe on a realistic budget

The goal is not to tell women how they are supposed to look. It is to give them practical tools to make intentional choices about how they want to present themselves.

Car Ownership Skill Partner

Commitment: 50-minute class | One-time or recurring | In person

For many women rebuilding their lives, reliable transportation can change everything. We are seeking mechanics, automotive professionals, insurance professionals, experienced car owners, and others who can teach practical Car Ownership 101 skills.

Topics may include:
● Understanding dashboard warning lights
● Checking tire pressure
● Oil changes and routine maintenance
● What maintenance is actually necessary
● Understanding auto insurance
● What to look for when buying a used vehicle
● Avoiding predatory auto loans
● Communicating with mechanics and repair shops
● Preparing for roadside emergencies
● What to do following an accident

No automotive jargon required. We want practical information women can actually use.

Hair & Beauty Skill Partner

Commitment: 50-minute class | One-time, seasonal, or recurring | In person

Beauty can be creative, practical, professional—and deeply personal. We are seeking hairstylists, barbers, estheticians, makeup artists, cosmetologists, natural-hair specialists, beauty professionals, and beauty-industry entrepreneurs to facilitate hands-on workshops.

Topics may include:
● Natural hair care
● Protective styling and healthy hair practices
● Skin care
● Everyday makeup
● Professional and interview-ready presentation
● Affordable product selection
● Building simple beauty routines
● Beauty-industry career pathways
● Entrepreneurship in hair, beauty, and cosmetics

Classes should be practical, culturally responsive, beginner-friendly, and welcoming to women with different styles and preferences.

Employment Application Lab Volunteer

Commitment: 60–90 minute lab | One-time or recurring | In person

Sometimes getting the job isn’t just about having a resume. It’s getting through the application. Employment Application Lab volunteers work alongside women as they navigate the actual process of finding and applying for employment.

Volunteers may help participants:
● Search for appropriate job openings
● Complete online applications
● Create employment-site accounts
● Upload resumes and supporting documents
● Navigate application questions
● Organize employment history and references
● Create professional email accounts
● Track submitted applications
● Prepare for employer follow-up

We are seeking HR professionals, recruiters, workforce professionals, administrative professionals, college students, retirees, and other patient, computer-comfortable volunteers who can work alongside participants without judgment. The goal is simple: fewer abandoned applications and more women getting to “Submit.”

Youth Tutor

Commitment: 1st & 3rd Mondays | 4:00–5:00 PM | One semester

School Dayz Academy is seeking consistent tutors to provide academic support to our middle and high school girls. Tutors help with homework, test preparation, reading and writing, math, projects, organization, and study skills. We especially value volunteers who can help girls build academic confidence and learn how to advocate for themselves at school.

We are looking for educators, retired teachers, college students, graduate students, education majors, and community members with strong academic skills. Tutors commit for one semester at a time. We are currently recruiting for the Fall Semester and will recruit separately for the Winter Semester.

School Dayz Transportation Volunteer

Commitment: 1st & 3rd Mondays | Approximately 3:30–4:00 PM pickup and/or 7:30 PM return transportation | One semester preferred

Transportation should never be the reason a girl cannot participate. We are seeking dependable volunteers to assist with transportation for School Dayz Academy. Volunteers may help pick girls up from school and transport them to Divas Who Win Freedom Center and/or provide transportation home following programming.

Transportation volunteers should be dependable, punctual, comfortable working with youth, and able to follow all Divas transportation and youth-safety procedures.

Requirements include: appropriate driver’s license, driving record review, background screening, and completion of required youth and transportation orientation.

School Dayz Skill Partner

Commitment: Flexible | Individual workshops or short-term series | In person

Bring what you know into the room. School Dayz Academy seeks professionals, educators, artists, makers, college students, and community members who can introduce our girls to skills, careers, and creative possibilities through hands-on experiences. We are particularly seeking Skill Partners in:
● STEM: science, technology, engineering, coding, robotics, mathematics, healthcare, environmental science, and related fields
● Fashion: design, sewing, styling, textiles, merchandising, modeling, photography, beauty industry careers, and fashion entrepreneurship
● Art: painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, and other visual art forms
● Drumming & Music: African and diasporic drumming, percussion, rhythm, music-making, and related cultural arts

Skill Partners may facilitate a single experience or work with us for several sessions during a semester. We prioritize hands-on learning over lectures—we want girls making, building, experimenting, designing, and discovering.

School Dayz Semester Partner

Commitment: One semester | Frequency determined by the specific project

For volunteers who want to go deeper, Semester Partners bring a particular area of expertise to School Dayz over several sessions. A Semester Partner might help girls complete a STEM project, create a fashion collection, develop an art installation, learn a new creative practice, or work toward a culminating project or presentation.

This role is ideal for someone who wants more involvement than a one-time workshop but cannot commit to volunteering year-round. Fall and Winter opportunities are available based on each semester’s School Dayz focus.

For all recurring School Dayz roles involving direct interaction with minors, volunteers will complete Divas Who Win’s required screening, orientation, and youth-safety requirements before beginning service.

Celebration Team

Commitment: Flexible | Monthly or around special occasions | In person and/or behind the scenes

Help us make sure important moments are noticed. Celebration Team volunteers help create thoughtful moments of recognition for women participating in Divas programs.

Opportunities may include:
● Preparing birthday and milestone cards
● Creating program completion celebrations
● Assembling welcome or encouragement bags
● Helping with holiday experiences
● Decorating for special occasions
● Preparing small recognition gifts
● Supporting recovery and personal milestones

This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, friend groups, churches, civic organizations, and workplace teams.

Building & Beautification Crew

Commitment: Flexible | Individual projects or scheduled volunteer days | In person

Help us care for the spaces where our work happens. We are seeking individuals and groups willing to lend their time and skills to beautification and small improvement projects at Divas Who Win Freedom Center.

Projects may include:
● Painting
● Deep cleaning and organizing
● Landscaping
● Seasonal decorating
● Furniture assembly
● Storage organization
● Garden cleanup
● Minor improvement projects
● Refreshing participant and community spaces

Ideal for corporate teams, civic groups, churches, fraternities and sororities, student organizations, skilled tradespeople, or groups looking for a hands-on service project.

Community Meal Team

Commitment: One-time or recurring | Scheduled around Divas programming

Food has a way of making a room feel like community. Community Meal Teams help provide meals during selected Divas programs, classes, and gatherings. Volunteers may:
● Prepare or sponsor a meal
● Coordinate food donations
● Deliver meals to the Freedom Center
● Help set up and serve
● Package leftovers when appropriate
● Assist with cleanup

This is an excellent group service opportunity for businesses, restaurants, churches, families, civic organizations, and groups of friends.
